UC 001. A decaying Earth. Once a lush and vibrant land, it is now slowly becoming a barren planet. It started in South America first, tectonic shifts that devastated the ecosystem. Millions were displaced, refugees not of war but environmental change. Faced with crowding and a dying Earth the people cried for their Government for a solution and one came in the form of Colonies. Though, Earth merely stayed the same. But with different countries and continents.

Launched shortly after the first ecosystem shift, the Colonies were to be outposts in outer space. A self-contained continent capable of sustaining the lives of millions for thousands of years; the first colony, Baoa Qui, was a huge success. The displaced people of Earth rejoiced as they found a new home.UC 130. Technology rapidly advanced and space travel became easier and easier. Both Earth and the Colonies could mass-produce ships capable of interstellar travel. Along with these advancements came the creation of giant mecha, Mobile Suits. Originally, prototype models were used to create the Colonies Mobile Suits had been perfected as the Colonies were launched.

The shifting climate on Earth gave way to shifting political views, eventually resulting in the Earth Federation; a dictatorship under the control of Masahika Noroujun . The year is UC 135.
